Out of this world
From the country that brought you milk beer and horseradish beer, comes another new brew that is simply out of this world: Space Beer.
Japanese brewery Sapporo Holdings plans to use the third generation of barley grains grown on the International Space Station to make its special beer.
In collaboration with scientists from Japan’s Okayama University, Sapporo will brew a limited supply of 100 bottles that won’t be going on general sale.
“You can’t enjoy beer in space, but if some day you can have an earthly lifestyle there, we would like to bring the beer drinking culture to space,” said Katsuhito Ogawa of Sapporo Holdings, rather cryptically.
As of now, scientists have not detected any differences between Earth-grown and space barley......
